FORMER STUDENT ACCOMMODATION DEMOLISHED TO MAKE WAY FOR HOUSING REDEVELOPMENT

Harris Lamb’s building consultancy team has overseen the demolition of a property formerly used for housing overseas students in Birmingham.

The business was instructed by Bournville Village Trust to manage the demolition project at 1 College Walk, Selly Oak, to make way for future site development to contribute to the city’s need for new housing.

Marcus Andrew, of the building consultancy team, said: “This three-storey building, known as Gemeindehaus, had previously been used to accommodate overseas students staying and studying in the city.

“The building was earmarked for demolition in order to pave the way for the future development of the site, plans that Harris Lamb’s team of planning consultants are currently dealing with.

“Having successfully dealt with the prior approval application, we went on to provide specification of works, put the works out to a competitive tender and then manage the project from inception until its completion.”

The seven-week project was completed on time and within budget, with the team ensuring that the property was fully demolished and the site left completely clear for future development.
