‘City Seeing ‘Resurgence in City Living’
You heard it here first back in July when my colleague, Sara Elwell blogged about the interest and potential of the City Living market returning. The headline in the Birmingham Post this week seemed to back our thoughts with a headline of:-
“Birmingham sees resurgence in City Living as rental sector buoyant again.”
The piece quotes heavily from the residential agents at Bigwood with a quote that “City Centre apartments – desperately hard to let during the recession – are now buoyant again,”.
The letting agent says “It isn’t completely clear what was influencing the market for the better, but it was probably due in part to a return to growth in the national economy.”
They then go on to say that they have “a list of people waiting for apartments in the City Centre and it is not uncommon to have three or four potential tenants keen to close a deal.”
What we are seeing at Harris Lamb is a developing interest from developer and land trading clients to take positions and move forward on sites that are probably classified as ‘inner urban’ in some of the Midland centres.
As housebuilders start to feel the effects of strong demand from those wishing to owner occupy or as ‘buy to let’ investments this will fuel more building activity.
This is good news for us as planners and for my agency colleagues who trade and advise on the sites capable of development, either now or in the near future.
