FANCY (ISH) FOOTWORK HELPS RAISE £1,200 FOR DUDLEY MIND

Okay, so the England Roses probably don’t have much to worry about YET, but this week saw Team HL make its netball debut in the Higgs & Sons mixed charity tournament.

Our eight-strong squad (L-R: Simon, Tom, Olivia, Fiona, John, Alex, Holly and Suzi) was one of 16 teams who played a series of matches at Stourbridge’s Redhill School to help raise funds for Higgs & Sons’ nominated charity, Dudley Mind.

Two gallant losses and a heroic win in the final group game meant the team didn’t make it through to the knock out stages, but they’re determined to return to the court next year and try to advance further.

Team Captain Olivia says: “While the HL guys are regulars at the annual football tournament, this is the first time the business has put a team forward for netball, and we had great time.

The standard was very competitive throughout, and it was particularly good to see the courts full of both ladies and gents playing netball – I foresee a couple of in-house tournaments taking place in the coming months as we hone our footwork skills for next year.

“A great evening was had by all, and we’re delighted to have played our part in raising £1,200 to help Dudley Mind provide essential support and guidance to those seeking help with mental health problems within the region,” she added.
