With more than 36 years’ experience within the Business Rates Valuation sector; including 28 with the Valuation Office Agency, James specialises in Licensed Property Appeals and Challenges and has been involved in all aspects of Rating from the Bank of England in the City of London to the repurposing of agricultural buildings across the UK. Recently James has successfully negotiated large refunds for a client in the crematorium business, another niche specialism.
A fellow of the British Institute of Innkeeping, James is always on hand to offer assistance to publicans on potential mitigation of Rates liability and has had success in all aspects of this from straightforward challenges to complex arguments on over trading.
As a Licensed Property specialist, he works with publicans, restaurateurs and hoteliers on a daily basis and has a solid understanding of the effort required to operate a successful site and the need for that site to be correctly rated in order to keep overheads as low as possible.
