HARRIS LAMB CELEBRATES SUCCESS AS TWO SURVEYORS ACHIEVE MRICS STATUS

Harris Lamb is celebrating the success of two of its team having passed their APC certifications to become RICS-qualified surveyors.

Charles Shephard, of the business’ Agency team, and Gavin Adams, of the Business Rates team, each achieved their APC (Assessment of Professional Competence) qualifications this month.

They were trained by Harris Lamb’s in-house APC mentor Suzi McGivern, who said she was incredibly proud of the success, particularly in light of the difficulties presented by the Pandemic.

Suzi said: “The APC is a gruelling part of becoming a Chartered Surveyor, involving a minimum of two years’ on-the-job experience, followed by a written submission, which includes an essay on a practical case study, culminating in a one-hour intense interview in front of a panel of RICS assessors in order to gain MRICS (Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) status.

“In normal market conditions, this is a challenging process, however to undertake the APC during two national lockdowns made it even more difficult. We set up various online revision sessions focussing on the individual competences that the candidates would have to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of, and also set up various mock interviews and presentation practice sessions via Teams.

“Both Charles and Gavin put a great deal of effort and dedication into the process and their success is a testament to that. We are thrilled that they have secured MRICS status and they should both be extremely proud of themselves.

The RICS states that MRICS status ‘demonstrates that RICS-qualified professionals have a chartered qualification and work to the highest industry standards.’

Charles, who joined the business in September 2019, said: “I am so pleased to have successfully passed this qualification to move on to the next phase of my career, and would like to thank Suzi for her ongoing support throughout the APC process, as well everyone at Harris Lamb, who have given me invaluable assistance from day one of joining the firm.”

Gavin, who has worked with Harris Lamb since December 2020, added: “The APC is a daunting process, but I am exceptionally lucky to have had the dedicated support of Suzi throughout my training, backed up by the guidance of my colleagues. I look forward to further developing my skills within the business.”
