MICHELIN-STARRED CHEF OPENS CASUAL DINING EXPERIENCE IN MOSELEY
An exciting new restaurant has launched in Birmingham, with Michelin-starred Peruvian chef Robert Ortiz having chosen to locate his first UK restaurant in a former bank in Moseley.
Ortiz, former Executive Chef for the renowned Lima and Lima Floral restaurants in London, unveiled Chakana this month, having instructed Harris Lamb to find a suitable site for his latest venture.
David Walton, Head of Retail at Harris Lamb, said: “This was a really exciting instruction. Robert and his business partners tasked us with conducting a Birmingham-wide search for a suitable site for a new casual dining experience
“Birmingham has a fantastic reputation for superb dining options, and Robert was keen to site himself in the region in establishing his affordable, casual independent restaurant.
“We identified the former LLoyds bank on the Alcester Road as an ideal site for the concept, occupying a prime location in the centre of the buzzing Moseley village close to its popular bars and pubs,” he said.
David added: “It’s exciting to see so many renowned chefs choosing to locate their restaurants in the Second City, and having tasted the food, I can predict with complete certainty that Chakana is going to be a massive hit.”
Robert Ortiz honed his experience working at the famous Costa Verde restaurant in Peru’s capital, along with The Landmark Hote and the Four Seasons Canary Wharf before heading up fellow Peruvian chef Virgilio Martínez’ Lima restaurant.
He received the ultimate culinary recognition in 2013 when Lima was awarded a Michelin star. Praised in the guide for his use of “punchy, invigorating flavours”, Lima was the first Peruvian restaurant in Europe to be recognised by the Guide.
