Planners at Harris Lamb have secured outline permission for up to 69 apartments in Birmingham’s historic Gun Quarter.

Acting for Laybrook Investments Ltd, the business submitted an outline planning application for the conversion of Gunsmith House and the demolition of remaining buildings on site to create one- and two-bedroom apartments.

The apartments will be spread across three and four blocks through 51-61 Price Street.

John Pearce of Harris Lamb’s planning team said: “This is an exciting development involving the retention and conversion of Gunsmith House, a locally listed building.

“This area of Birmingham features some wonderfully characterful buildings, which, post-renovation, will result in a very desirable new living solution within the city.

“We anticipate good levels of interest in the property when it is brought to market, given its prominent location in one of the most sought-after locations in the city and in light of both the short term income it offers and its development potential,” he added.

A spokesman for Laybrook Investments said: “I am delighted that the City Council have granted planning permission for this significant redevelopment.

“The Gun Quarter has a great heritage and we’re looking forward to bringing a new lease of life to Price Street. These apartments will provide much-needed quality new homes in a historic part of Birmingham that is in very close proximity to the City Centre,” he added.

Harris Lamb aims to bring the site to the market for disposal in the coming months.
