Harris Lamb has grown its building consultancy department with the appointment of a Graduate Surveyor.

Lachlan Macphail has joined the business having achieved a first-class degree in Building Surveying from Liverpool John Moores University.

Lachlan is now enrolled in the rigorous APC (Assessment of Professional Competence) programme to achieve accreditation from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors with the support of Harris Lamb’s in-house mentor.

Lachlan said: “During the course of my degree I undertook work placements with various property consultancies to help me develop the skills required of a surveyor, such as drawing up floor plans, using architectural based software and working off-site shadowing building surveyors to understand the role and its dynamic.

“Having completed my work placements within the West Midlands I was familiar with Harris Lamb’s reputation, breadth of experience, and the business’ diverse range of commercial instructions throughout the UK, and was keen to be a part of the team when the position became available.

“I was particularly attracted to the support the business provides in terms of providing both in-house mentoring and practical experience to help graduates work toward their APC, a process I have enrolled for and that I am committed to achieving as part of my own career progression within the sector,” he said.

Gareth Booker, Director, of the business’ Building Consultancy department, said: “We are delighted Lachlan has joined our team; having been highly recommended further to his work placements. He is already proving an asset in supporting his colleagues with a whole range of commercial and industrial instructions.

“We are pleased that he is so committed to developing his learning and progressing his career with us and will work alongside our colleagues throughout the business to provide him with a clear understanding of the industry and support him throughout the qualification process,” he added.
