TEAM HL BACKS LEICESTERSHIRE SCOUT GROUP’S CHARITY CYCLE CHALLENGE

Harris Lamb has pledged its support to a Leicestershire Explorer Scout group which is set to tackle a 125-mile charity cycle ride in aid of Rainbows Children’s Hospice.

The Ashford Explorer Scout Unit of Whitwick, Leicestershire, are raising money to support the work Rainbows does to help seriously ill children and their families, and the125-mile coast-to-coast cycle through Devon this August aims to raise over £2,000 for the hospice.

James Ward, of Harris Lamb’s Licensed and Leisure team, leads the group, and said: “Each of the Explorer Scouts is funding this trip for themselves so that every penny we manage to raise during the course of our adventure is donated to the hospice.

“Rainbows does incredible work to help terminally and seriously ill children and their families, providing respite care, sibling, family and bereavement support, outreach care and family accommodation in order to help make the very most of the time families have together, and the group has committed to helping to raise awareness of the hospice’s work as well as funds to help the charity continue to do everything it can to support families enduring these dreadful circumstances.

“In August, a 16-strong group, aged 14-18, will tackle a 125-mile coast-to-coast ride, beginning in Plymouth and travelling via Dartmoor, Tavistock and Okehampton to end the week-long jaunt in Ilfracombe. They’re already training hard, and as well as paying for their own accommodation and food, they’re aiming to raise over £2,000 for the hospice with their efforts. So far, we’re almost a quarter of the way there, so we’re confident they can hit their target by the time they start pushing the pedals,” he added.

“I’m happy to report that Harris Lamb has already pledged its support to help the group toward its target, and it means a great deal that the business is among a number of regional supporters to have already backed the scouts in their mission, but we still have some way to go, and all contributions are very welcome,” said James.
