Land agents at Harris Lamb have sold a former Worcestershire school site to Cameron Homes for over £2.7 million.

The developer will build 57 high quality new homes on the 5.36-acre site, a portion of which will be retained by Wyre Forest District Council to provide a green corridor and nature area.

Instructed by Place Partnership, who represent Worcestershire County Council, Harris Lamb was the sole agent for the former Stourminster School site on Comberton Road.

James Willcock, of the business’ Residential Land team, said: “There have been concerns about the lack of new housing emerging to meet the demand from buyers looking to settle in Worcestershire, and the last year or so has seen some prominent parcels of land released for developers to meet that demand.

“The Comberton Road site was allocated in the Preferred Options Draft of the emerging Local Plan as being suitable and sustainable for a scheme of 56 properties following a positive assessment by Wyre Forest District Council.

“Following significant interest from developers keen to capitalise on the desirable location, Sam Silcocks, Director in our planning consultancy team, secured permission for 57 dwellings at the site on behalf of Cameron Homes late last year. Further to continued liaison and discussions with the local authority over the spring and summer, and amidst challenging times for all, the terms ofthe Section106 agreement were approved. We are now delighted to announce that the sale of the land to Cameron Homes has now completed.

Part of the site incorporating a brook and woodland is to be given back to the local authority in order to create green space to benefit the community.

Demolition at the site is expected to take place before the end of this year, with construction earmarked for early 2021.
