HARRIS LAMB ANNOUNCES SPONSORSHIP OF ROWING TEAM EMBARKING ON A ‘WREKIN OARSOME’ ATLANTIC CHALLENGE

Harris Lamb has agreed a sponsorship deal with an intrepid crew of Shropshire fitness enthusiasts set to row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean from Spain to the Caribbean in aid of the British Heart Foundation and Severn Hospice.

The business’ Telford office has become an Oar Partner for the wrekinOARsome team, which faces the World’s Toughest Row (WTR) 2026 Challenge.

The WrekinOARsome team, made up of Phil Evans, Jess Harvey and Gary Fletcher, will row from San Sebastian in La Gomera, Canary Islands to Nelson’s Dockyard English Harbour, Antigua & Barbuda.

Phil, an electrician, Jess, a GP, and Gary, a builder, have months of training ahead of them to ready themselves for the challenge, which they will embark upon in December.

 

Phil said: “The three of us are all passionate about fitness and pushing ourselves to succeed, and we are united in our goal to row across the Atlantic as quickly as possible. We are already training hard and supporting one another mentally and physically in the build-up to this once in a lifetime experience.

“Between us, we have a lot of experience, having completed marathons, ultramarathons, and Ironman triathlons and competed in multiple different sports, but this is an entirely different challenge, and one we really need to be properly equipped and prepared for.”

“We are now undertaking gruelling training regimes both on the water and on land in readiness for the task ahead. With luck, we’ll be over halfway there this time next year,” Jess  added.

Matthew Tilt, who heads up the Commercial Agency team at Harris Lamb’s Telford office, said: “As a business, we have always been committed to supporting our communities and any charitable endeavours, and when we heard what the WrekinOARsome team had set out to achieve, we knew it was something we wanted to back.

“Both of the charities the team has pledged to support do incredible work, and the fact that these three are going to undertake something so extraordinary to help raise awareness and funds for the causes is something we were delighted to throw our weight behind.

“We will be following the team’s training progress in the coming months as they continue to prepare for the challenge, and we cannot wait to see how they fare once they embark on their voyage. We wish them every success and are looking forward to following their journey,” he added.
