HARRIS LAMB APPOINTS A NEW ECOLOGIST TO THE GREEN TEAM

Harris Lamb has appointed a new assistant ecologist to its Environment team to meet the expanding needs of its client base.

Alex Gonsalves has worked with the business as an environmental subcontractor for the past year, culminating with him securing a permanent position with the team.

The move follows a career change for Alex, who has a background in counselling and psychotherapy, prior to him pursuing a career in ecology on a self-employed basis in 2025.

Natalie Walsh, Head of Ecology, said: “Alex has provided valuable support to us over the last 12 months collecting data for our reports and participating in a wide range of surveys, from carrying out reptile, bat and badger surveys to reviewing trail camera and Night Vision Aid footage to assist with our work.

“Our team was really impressed with the work he undertook for us, the level of attention and care he demonstrated, and the efforts he went to to forge good relationships with the team.

“With demonstrable green credentials and ecological accountability now an essential requirement within the planning process, our client roster has grown as businesses call on our experience to help meet their needs, undertake relevant surveys and advise on Biodiversity Net Gain. We are delighted that Alex sought a full-time role with the business at such a pivotal time, and we have no doubt he will prove a real asset to the team,” she added.

Alex said: “Ecology was a vocational career change for me, combining my ardour for nature with my commitment to see it managed and curated responsibly. Having benefitted from the experience of working for them over the past year, I had formed an excellent relationship with the team and was very keen to pursue a permanent position.

“I found Harris Lamb’s pragmatic and balanced approach to ecology to be very effective. After the success of the last season’s work, and the general trends in the environmental sector, I feel the whole team has a real sense of trajectory, which I am thrilled to be a part of.”
